The Oaktown Datahouse
a work in progress

Information is not just for the experts

The Oaktown Datahouse puts the power of the information age in the hands of people working for community change.

This information system uses interactive maps to help you to get data about your neighborhood and the city.

If this is your first time using these maps, you may want to go print out the lesson or review it first on-screen.

If you get !! in the layers window, you will need to Zoom In a bit on the map to see the layers. This is a bug in the program that occurs with Internet Explorer version 5.0 and below. You can avoid this in the future by upgrading your Internet Explorer to version 6.0. Go to this address to upgrade: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/ie6/default.asp.

This first draft of the information system is the result of the collaborative work of the following organizations:

We want to thank the community members who came out to workshops and provided feedback on the content and design of the Oaktown Datahouse.

The Hewlett Foundation provided funding to support the 7th Street McClymonds Corridor Neighborhood Improvement Initiative in West Oakland. The Annie E. Casey Foundation provided funding to support the Making Connections Initiative in Lower San Antonio.
